Published October 31, 2026 | By PA East Sports Media
The Eastern Pennsylvania high school football regular season came to a close Friday night as the Garnet Valley Jaguars rumbled past the Ridley Raiders by a score of 27–14 in a physical District 1 showdown.
The Jaguars were nearly unstoppable on the ground, leaving Ridley searching for answers defensively throughout much of the game.
With both teams looking to build momentum heading into the PIAA District 1 playoffs, Garnet Valley made a statement in its regular-season finale.
GAME RECAP
The Ridley defense opened the game strong, forcing Garnet Valley into a three-and-out on its opening possession.
But after that, the Jaguars took full control.
Senior RB Luke Bernard ran wild in his return to action after missing two games due to injury.
Bernard got things going early for Garnet Valley, rumbling into the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown with just 1:00 remaining in the first quarter.
A few minutes into the second quarter, the Jaguars got a HUGE defensive play from senior DE Sam Barclift.
Barclift strip-sacked Ridley QB Joey Carroll, and Garnet Valley recovered the football, giving the Jaguars excellent field position around the Ridley 20-yard line.
Bernard immediately ripped off a nice 15-yard run, taking the ball down to the 5-yard line.
Senior RB Sebastian Cantu finished off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, extending the Jaguars' lead to 13–0 after Ridley blocked the extra-point attempt.
Ridley continued to struggle offensively, playing without two of its standout running backs, Jamar Savoy Jr. and Mahki Williams.
Garnet Valley regained possession midway through the second quarter and put together another impressive drive, eventually finding themselves at the Ridley 21-yard line.
That's when senior QB Coltan Turner connected with junior WR Brody Orr on a BEAUTIFUL 21-yard touchdown pass, extending the Jaguars' lead to 20–0 with just 3:00 remaining before halftime.
However, the Raiders weren't going down without a fight.
Ridley got the ball back with an opportunity to put points on the board before the break.
After a few costly Garnet Valley penalties helped move the Raiders into the red zone, junior QB Joey Carroll connected with senior WR Ian Green for a touchdown, finally putting Ridley on the scoreboard.
HALFTIME: GARNET VALLEY 20, RIDLEY 7
Coming out of halftime, the Raiders began putting together a promising drive behind some tough runs from senior Kevin Farley and junior Logan Clark.
However, the Garnet Valley defense held strong, eventually forcing a punt in their own territory and giving their offense the football for the first time in the second half.
The third quarter featured some EXCELLENT defensive football from both teams.
Late in the quarter, Garnet Valley found themselves at the Ridley 14-yard line facing a crucial 4&2.
The Raiders defense STOOD TALL, stopping the Jaguars short of the first down and giving its offense the ball back with a long field ahead to begin the fourth quarter.
Ridley desperately needed a big drive.
Things started promisingly with a few tough runs from Farley and a nice 12-yard reception from Green.
But with just under 10:00 remaining and trailing by 13 points, the Raiders faced a crucial 4&5 around midfield.
They couldn't convert.
Garnet Valley took over with tremendous field position and an opportunity to put the game out of reach.
The Jaguars immediately got back to work on the ground, with Bernard and Cantu delivering several physical runs to move the football down near the Ridley 20-yard line.
Then junior RB Roy Pomarico found PAYDIRT from around 20 yards out, extending Garnet Valley's lead to 27–7 with just 5:30 remaining.
It was the dagger to an incredible day on the ground for the Jags offense.
But Ridley had no quit.
Carroll connected with senior WR Chase Bonnes for a big 24-yard gain, moving the Raiders deep into Garnet Valley territory.
Carroll then found his favorite target, Ian Green, once again for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 27–14 with just 1:30 remaining.
Ridley followed it up with a successful ONSIDE KICK RECOVERY, giving the Raiders one final opportunity to make things interesting.
A few more nice receptions from Green moved Ridley just outside the red zone.
However, the Raiders eventually faced a difficult 4&long.
Garnet Valley's fierce pass rush, which had been causing problems all night, came through once again as Ridley failed to convert.
The Jaguars took over, kneeled out the remaining time, and walked away victorious, closing out the regular season on a high note heading into the PIAA District 1 playoffs.
FINAL: GARNET VALLEY 27, RIDLEY 14
PA EAST TAKEAWAYS
RIDLEY RAIDERS (8–2)
The Raiders finish the regular season with an impressive 8–2 record and are comfortably positioned for a spot in the 2026 PIAA District 1 6A playoffs.
Ridley entered Friday night's matchup without two of its most explosive offensive weapons in running backs Jamar Savoy Jr. and Mahki Williams.
Their absences were noticeable, especially against a physical Garnet Valley defensive front.
Hopefully, both players will be healthy and ready to go for the postseason.
The Raiders are a tough, physical, run-heavy football team that has shown all season long that they can compete with some of the best teams in District 1.
Despite Friday night's loss, there are plenty of reasons to remain optimistic about Ridley heading into the playoffs.
Don't be surprised if the Raiders make a DEEP postseason run, especially if they can get their two standout running backs healthy.
RIDLEY NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
#28 Kevin Farley | Senior | RB/MLB
Farley was EVERYWHERE Friday night on BOTH sides of the football.
With injuries affecting Ridley's backfield, Farley stepped up offensively at running back and delivered an outstanding performance, rushing for over 100 yards.
Defensively, it seemed like his name was being called on nearly every play.
Farley was constantly around the football, making tackles and delivering physical hits.
This kid is the REAL DEAL.
Terrific performance from Farley.
#18 Ian Green | Senior | WR/DE
Green was SUPERB Friday night, hauling in two touchdown receptions and consistently finding ways to get open against the Garnet Valley secondary.
His route running and ability to create separation stood out throughout the game.
When Ridley needed someone to make a play in the passing game, Green answered the call.
A very productive night from the senior playmaker.
GARNET VALLEY JAGUARS (9–1)
The Jaguars finish the regular season with an outstanding 9–1 record, putting themselves in excellent position heading into the 2026 PIAA District 1 5A playoffs.
Garnet Valley is an OLD-SCHOOL, tough, physical football team.
And Friday night was a perfect example of exactly that.
The Jaguars pounded the football down the field against a very good Ridley defense, consistently winning battles at the line of scrimmage and controlling the pace of the game.
Their one-two punch at running back, featuring seniors Luke Bernard and Sebastian Cantu, is an absolute NIGHTMARE for opposing defenses.
Both backs run with tremendous physicality and are incredibly difficult to bring down.
Defensively, the Jaguars were flying around the field all night, constantly generating pressure in the backfield, delivering big hits, and making crucial stops when Ridley threatened to get back into the game.
This is a well-rounded football team that can beat opponents in multiple ways.
Look for Garnet Valley to make some serious NOISE in the District 1 5A playoffs this year.
GARNET VALLEY NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
#36 Luke Bernard | Senior | RB/MLB
What a RETURN for Luke Bernard.
After missing the previous two games due to injury, Bernard came back Friday night and reminded everyone just how dangerous he can be.
The senior running back rushed for over 100 yards and added a touchdown, consistently running through contact and fighting for extra yards.
Bernard is an extremely physical runner who is incredibly difficult to bring down in the open field.
He also made several key contributions on the defensive side of the football.
It's safe to say the Jaguars were VERY happy to have him back.
An outstanding all-around performance from Bernard.
GARNET VALLEY OFFENSIVE LINE
- Nick Potts | Senior | C
- Liam Genthert | Senior | G
- Sam Barclift | Senior | G
- Tyler Hays | Senior | T
- Ryan Vance | Senior | T
The Garnet Valley offensive line absolutely BALLED OUT Friday night.
These five guys dominated the battle in the trenches against a very talented Ridley defensive front.
Their physicality, toughness, and ability to consistently create running lanes were major reasons the Jaguars were so successful offensively.
Bernard, Cantu, and the rest of the Garnet Valley backfield certainly benefited from the outstanding blocking up front.
Props to the BIG BOYS UP FRONT for an incredibly impressive performance.
#54 Sam Barclift | Senior | G/DE
Barclift was a PROBLEM on both sides of the football Friday night.
Defensively, he delivered one of the biggest plays of the game in the second quarter, strip-sacking QB Joey Carroll and setting up a Garnet Valley touchdown.
He continued making his presence felt throughout the night, generating pressure and recording multiple additional sacks.
Offensively, Barclift was a major contributor to the Jaguars' dominant performance along the offensive line.
A tremendous two-way showing from the senior.
PA EAST FINAL THOUGHTS
Friday night's matchup was a perfect example of what makes Pennsylvania high school football so special.
Two tough, physical football teams battling it out in the final week of the regular season, with playoff positioning and momentum on the line.
And when it mattered most, Garnet Valley was simply the better team.
The Jaguars controlled the line of scrimmage, established a DOMINANT rushing attack, and made the big defensive plays necessary to come away with the victory.
The return of Luke Bernard was HUGE for Garnet Valley. His physical running style, combined with Sebastian Cantu and an outstanding offensive line, made life extremely difficult for the Ridley defense.
And let's not overlook the Jaguars' defense.
From Sam Barclift's game-changing strip sack in the second quarter to the relentless pressure late in the fourth, Garnet Valley consistently stepped up when they needed to.
But give Ridley credit.
Despite missing two major offensive weapons and falling behind 20–0, the Raiders continued fighting until the very end.
Kevin Farley stepped up in a BIG way, Ian Green delivered two impressive touchdown receptions, and the Raiders even recovered a late onside kick to give themselves one final opportunity.
That kind of fight says a lot about this Ridley football team.
The Raiders have plenty of talent, toughness, and playmakers to make things interesting in the postseason, especially if they can get healthy.
As for Garnet Valley, the Jaguars enter the playoffs with a TON of momentum.
A 9–1 regular-season record, a powerful rushing attack, a physical defense, and an offensive line that can dominate the trenches.
That's a dangerous combination come playoff time.
Both teams have the pieces to make some serious noise in November.
But on Friday night, it was the Garnet Valley Jaguars who made the statement.
FINAL: GARNET VALLEY 27, RIDLEY 14
WE COVER. WE TELL. WE ARE. PA EAST.
