Week 1 is here, and one of the biggest matchups in Eastern Pennsylvania takes place Friday night when Chester travels to Strath Haven for a District 1 showdown. Both programs are coming off strong 2025 seasons, both saw their playoff runs end against Springfield, and both enter 2026 with expectations of making another deep run. This has all the ingredients of a Week 1 statement game.
CHESTER CLIPPERS
Chester is coming off a monster 2025 season in which the Clippers finished 13-1 before falling to Springfield in the District 1 playoffs.
Last year's team was senior-heavy, meaning Chester will have plenty of new faces stepping into larger roles in 2026. That does not mean the Clippers are short on talent.
Senior Sire Hall returns as one of the biggest names on the roster. Hall is a standout cornerback with Division I offers, including Akron and Syracuse, and could make life difficult for Strath Haven anytime the Panthers decide to put the ball in the air.
Chester also brings back seniors Zyon Santana and Jabrae Davis, two physical players who were important pieces of last year's success.
One younger player to keep an eye on is sophomore running back Kanif Doward. He could emerge as one of Chester's breakout players this season, and don't be surprised if he starts making an impact immediately against Strath Haven.
Junior wide receiver Sekai Brown-Murray also returns. He gives Chester a dangerous weapon on the outside with his speed and ability to make contested catches.
Up front, the Clippers return Jacoby Roman and Soloman Dotson, while Santana is also expected to contribute along the offensive line. That returning experience in the trenches could be extremely important against a physical Strath Haven defense.
CHESTER'S KEY TO VICTORY
Stop the run.
Strath Haven is built around a physical, run-heavy offense with multiple capable backs. Chester cannot allow the Panthers to dictate the game on the ground. If the Clippers can limit Strath Haven's rushing attack and force the Panthers into obvious passing situations, Chester's talented secondary could become a major factor.
STRATH HAVEN PANTHERS
Strath Haven is coming off an excellent 2025 campaign of its own, finishing 10-3 before also falling to Springfield in the District 1 playoffs.
Unlike Chester, Strath Haven enters this season with a very experienced, senior-heavy roster.
And when it comes to running backs, the Panthers have options everywhere.
Senior Yousif Ali returns after rushing for 777 yards last season. Senior Kasey Hudson is back after a 664-yard campaign, while senior Landon Barlow returns after rushing for roughly 600 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Then there is Derrick Bradley, another dangerous weapon who brings elite speed and big-play ability to the offense.
The Panthers are just as dangerous on defense. Senior linebackers Cole Haley and Patrick Burke form one of the best linebacker duos in District 1. The pair combined for more than 175 tackles last season and both play with the physicality and instincts Strath Haven's defense is known for.
Senior tight end Tyler Slaughter is another player to watch. His size and physicality give Strath Haven an impact player both as a blocker and as a receiving option.
STRATH HAVEN'S KEY TO VICTORY
Be physical from start to finish.
Chester is going to bring energy, athleticism and intensity. Strath Haven has to match that from the opening kickoff. If the Panthers can establish their rushing attack, control the line of scrimmage and consistently win the physical battle, they have the personnel to control the pace of this game.

Playing at home with such a senior-heavy roster gives Strath Haven an advantage entering Week 1.
Chester will have several players stepping into major roles for the first time, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will be a major drop-off. The Clippers still have enough returning talent and athleticism to make this extremely competitive.
Strath Haven's experience, rushing depth and home-field advantage are enough to give the Panthers the slight edge.
This is anyone's game.
