There’s a massive Week 2 showdown Friday night in Lansdale as Central York travels to North Penn for the PA East Sports Media Featured Game of the Week.

Central York enters at 0–1 after a 35–28 loss to State College, while North Penn comes in 1–0 following a dominant 41–7 victory over Lower Dauphin.

Both teams are loaded with playmakers, and with Central York looking to avoid an 0–2 start and North Penn trying to build on an impressive opener, this has the makings of one of the best games of the week.

Central York Panthers

Central York is coming off a tough 35–28 home loss to State College last Friday night. That puts some added importance on this matchup, as the Panthers will be looking to avoid opening the season 0–2.

One of the biggest bright spots from Week 1 was WR DeMarcus Murray, who delivered a dominant performance with six receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Murray showed his ability to create explosive plays and will be one of the biggest weapons North Penn has to account for Friday night.

Keep an eye on RB Legend Johnson as well. Johnson was held relatively quiet against State College, but he remains one of Central York's most dangerous playmakers. Expect the Panthers to look for ways to get him involved early and give him opportunities in space.

Sophomore quarterback Jamin Ilgenfritz will look to build on an impressive Week 1 performance. Ilgenfritz threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns while adding 40 rushing yards on six carries and a rushing touchdown. For a sophomore making an early-season start against quality competition, he showed plenty of promise.

Defensively, Josh Bahr remains a key piece of the Panthers' defense. The senior recorded seven solo tackles and 13 total tackles last week and consistently finds his way to the football. Against a North Penn offense loaded with playmakers, his ability to make stops in space will be important.

Also watch junior Jatniel Gil, who will be challenged by a North Penn offense capable of attacking in multiple ways.

Central York also has a weapon on special teams in junior kicker Brayden Burt. His leg gives the Panthers another scoring option and could become especially important if Friday night's matchup comes down to one possession.

Central York's Key to Victory

Contain North Penn's playmakers.

Rylei Gray and Ziyon Smith are both capable of changing a game quickly. Central York can't allow either player to consistently create explosive plays in space.

If the Panthers can limit Gray and Smith and force North Penn to sustain long drives, Central York's high-powered offense should have opportunities to put enough points on the board to win.

North Penn Knights

North Penn couldn't have asked for a much better start to its season.

The Knights opened with a dominant 41–7 victory over Lower Dauphin at a neutral site last Saturday, and the amount of firepower on this roster immediately stood out.

Ziyon Smith put together one of the most impressive Week 1 performances around. The junior accounted for four total touchdowns — two rushing touchdowns, a kickoff-return touchdown and a pick-six — while also recording two interceptions.

Smith can impact a game on offense, defense and special teams, which makes him one of the most important players for Central York to contain Friday night.

And the Panthers can't focus solely on Smith.

Senior Rylei Gray rushed for 143 yards on just 13 carries with a touchdown in the opener. His combination of speed, vision and explosiveness gives North Penn another home-run threat in the backfield.

Then there's WR/FS Sal Colella, another two-way player who can make an impact throughout the game. Defensively, Colella reads the quarterback well and closes quickly on the football, both in coverage and against the run. Offensively, his ability as a receiver gives North Penn another weapon in the passing game.

Leading the middle of the Knights' defense is MLB Jacob Garret. Garret brings a physical, old-school style to the position. He attacks downhill, fills gaps aggressively and plays with intensity. He'll have an important role against Central York's rushing attack.

At quarterback, London Evans put together an efficient Week 1 performance, completing 6 of 10 passes for 138 yards. He takes care of the football, reads the defense well and does a good job finding the open receiver. With the amount of talent surrounding him, Evans doesn't need to force plays — he simply needs to distribute the football and keep the offense moving.

North Penn's Key to Victory

Get Gray and Smith involved early.

Those two give North Penn the ability to create explosive plays from anywhere on the field. If Gray and Smith produce anything close to what they did in Week 1, Central York will have its hands full.

North Penn should also be comfortable if this develops into a high-scoring game. The Knights have enough offensive weapons to trade scores with Central York, making explosive plays especially important.
