Central York Takes Down North Penn 42–33 in Week 2 Shootout
LANSDALE, PA — There was a massive showdown at North Penn High School on Friday night, and it did not disappoint.
Central York and North Penn combined for 75 points in a back-and-forth battle that featured explosive plays, turnovers and incredible individual performances. In the end, the Panthers pulled away behind a dominant second half to earn a 42–33 road victory and improve to 1–1.
Sophomore quarterback Jamin Ilgenfritz threw six touchdown passes, while junior wide receiver DeMarcus Murray caught five of them as the Central York offense put together a statement performance.
Central York Comes Out Firing
Central York senior Josh Bahr set the tone immediately with a strong return on the opening kickoff. Then senior running back Legend Johnson followed with a 22-yard run and helped the Panthers march into North Penn territory. From the Knights' 24-yard line, Ilgenfritz found junior Ali “Deuce” Johnson over the middle for a 24-yard touchdown and a 7–0 lead.
On North Penn's opening possession, junior defensive back Hunter Fogle intercepted quarterback London Evans. Three plays later, Ilgenfritz connected with Murray for a 37-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14–0.
North Penn responded with Evans finding senior Rylei Gray for a five-yard touchdown reception. Then came one of the wildest sequences of the night: Central York appeared to recover a muffed punt by Ziyon Smith, but a false-start penalty forced a re-punt. Smith took the second opportunity 59 yards for a touchdown, tying the game at 14–14 after one quarter.
Murray and Ilgenfritz Take Over
Midway through the second quarter, Ilgenfritz and Murray struck again. Murray made a spectacular tipped, one-handed five-yard touchdown catch to give Central York a 21–14 lead. Gray answered with a 15-yard touchdown run, sending the teams to halftime tied 21–21.
North Penn punted on its first possession after halftime, and Central York immediately capitalized. Ilgenfritz found Murray for their third touchdown connection, this one from 40 yards out, putting the Panthers back in front 28–21.
Smith responded with a huge kickoff return to the Central York 22-yard line, but the Panthers' defense held. Junior Cyrus Nouss made an important third-down tackle for loss, and Doug Layer intercepted Evans on fourth down.
Ilgenfritz and Murray connected again for a 20-yard touchdown, making it 35–21. Early in the fourth quarter, the duo struck for the fifth time, extending the lead to 42–21. North Penn continued battling, but Central York's second-half surge proved too much to overcome as the Panthers closed out the 42–33 victory.

Central York picked up a major road win against a talented North Penn team. The Panthers showed speed, physicality and playmaking ability across the field, responding impressively after their Week 1 loss to State College. Central York improves to 1–1 and will look to carry that momentum into next week's matchup against Manheim Township.

Ilgenfritz looked cool, calm and collected throughout the night. The sophomore consistently made smart decisions with the football and was dangerous both throwing from the pocket and using his legs when necessary. When PA East spoke with Ilgenfritz after the game, he immediately gave credit to his offensive line and receivers. And he's only a sophomore. Ilgenfritz showed Friday night that he has the talent, composure and leadership you want from a quarterback.
DeMarcus Murray — WR, Junior
7 receptions • 112 yards • 5 touchdowns
It would be difficult to ask for a better performance from a wide receiver. Murray's route running, hands, toughness and ability to create separation were on display throughout the night. Whenever Central York needed a big play, Murray seemed to be involved. It was his second consecutive 100-yard receiving performance, giving him seven receiving touchdowns through Central York's first two games. Like Ilgenfritz, Murray was quick to give his teammates and coaches credit after the game.
Legend Johnson — RB, Senior
Johnson was a force on the ground, rushing for nearly 200 yards on 27 carries. He consistently created chunk plays, including multiple runs of 20-plus yards, and helped keep North Penn's defense honest while Central York attacked through the air. Johnson also contributed defensively. The Kent State commit showed why he is such an important part of this Central York team on both sides of the football.

Ali “Deuce” Johnson: 6 receptions, 67 yards and one touchdown. Johnson also contributed on defense and special teams.
Josh Bahr: 11 total tackles, including 10 solo tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack.

NORTH PENN
North Penn falls to 1–1, but there were still plenty of positives for the Knights to build on. Even after falling behind 14–0 early and later facing a three-score deficit, North Penn continued to compete and produced several explosive plays. The Knights will look to get back into the win column next week when they travel to face Upper Dublin.
Ziyon Smith — RB, Junior
Smith continues to establish himself as one of North Penn's most explosive playmakers. He delivered two huge touchdowns Friday night: a 59-yard punt return and an 80-yard screen-pass touchdown. He finished with 3 receptions for 106 yards and one receiving touchdown, in addition to his punt-return score. Whenever Smith gets the football in space, he's a threat to change the game.
Rylei Gray — RB, Senior
Gray put together another strong performance for the Knights. He ran physically, showed impressive burst and consistently looked dangerous with the football in his hands. Gray finished with three total touchdowns — two receiving and one rushing. His speed, cuts and physical running style were on display throughout the night.

Will Rittenhouse made several impressive catches throughout the game and provided another option in the North Penn passing attack.
