PA EAST WEEK 8 FEATURED GAME PREVIEW
RIVALRY REIGNITED: BONNER-PRENDIE AND CARDINAL O’HARA SET FOR MUST-WATCH WEEK 8 SHOWDOWN
Week 8 of Eastern Pennsylvania high school football is almost here, and one of the state's most exciting rivalries is set to take center stage Friday night.
The Bonner-Prendie Friars (4–3) travel to face the Cardinal O’Hara Lions (4–3) in a highly anticipated rivalry showdown that could very well be one of the best games in Eastern Pennsylvania this week.
The two programs split their meetings last season, with Bonner-Prendie taking the regular-season matchup before Cardinal O’Hara answered with a victory in the playoff rematch. Now, the two rivals are set to square off once again in another highly anticipated battle.
Both teams have battled through incredibly challenging schedules, faced elite competition, and shown flashes of just how dangerous they can be. With both programs entering at 4–3, Friday night presents an opportunity to make a statement against a familiar face.
BONNER-PRENDIE FRIARS (4–3)
The Friars roll into town following a dominant 45–0 victory over Father Judge. Bonner-Prendie has faced a demanding schedule this season, going up against some of the area's toughest competition while continuing to compete at a high level.
Friday night presents another major challenge against a physical and talented Cardinal O’Hara team.
A major part of the Friars' success this season has been senior WR/CB Tymir Morris.
Morris is a playmaker in every phase of the game. He possesses elite speed, outstanding yards-after-catch ability, and the explosiveness to turn a routine play into a big gain. He's incredibly shifty, has excellent hands, and is a dangerous return specialist.
Defensively, Morris is also an outstanding cover corner who can make life difficult for opposing receivers. Look for him to make his presence felt Friday night.
Junior MLB Logan Rodgers brings tremendous intensity and physicality to the Friars' defense.
Rodgers is constantly finding his way into the backfield, disrupting plays, and putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. He's extremely quick for a middle linebacker, reads plays exceptionally well as they develop, and can also drop into coverage effectively.
Rodgers is EVERYWHERE on defense for Bonner-Prendie.
Running the show offensively is senior QB Noel Campbell Jr.
Campbell Jr. has an impressive arm and appears capable of making just about any throw asked of him. He's accurate, efficient, and looks comfortable operating from the pocket.
What makes him especially dangerous, however, is his ability to extend plays with his legs. Campbell Jr. is an explosive scrambler who can punish defenses that fail to account for his mobility.
Other Players to Watch - Bonner-Prendie
Junior T Tyrie Davis-Winn
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-8 and 275 pounds, Davis-Winn is an absolute force along the Friars' offensive line. He's a dominant run blocker and an excellent pass protector who uses his size and physicality to overwhelm defenders.
He'll need to be at his best Friday night against Cardinal O’Hara's aggressive and talented pass rush.
Senior NG Terence Jones Jr.
Jones Jr. is a disruptive presence along the defensive line. For a player of his size, he moves exceptionally well and consistently finds ways to get involved in plays. His combination of quickness, strength, and physicality makes him a difficult matchup for opposing offensive linemen.
Senior WR/FS Tarif Nixon
Nixon is an absolute stud on both sides of the football.
Offensively, he has outstanding hands, excels at making contested catches, and is dangerous after the catch. He's a BIG-TIME playmaker who can change a game with one reception.
Defensively, Nixon is equally impressive. He's a physical hitter, reads opposing quarterbacks well, and is excellent in coverage. Expect Nixon to be a major contributor Friday night.
Senior DE Nafiz Bostick
Bostick is a dominant defensive presence who flies around the field with tremendous intensity. He's constantly finding his way into the backfield, disrupting offensive plays, and creating opportunities for turnovers.
Senior CB/WR Musa Bradford
Bradford is a LOCKDOWN corner for the Friars.
His speed, coverage ability, and excellent open-field tackling make him a major asset in the secondary. He's also capable of making plays offensively, giving Bonner-Prendie another versatile weapon.
Senior CB/FS Jameer Frink
Frink is another talented member of the Friars' secondary. He's excellent in coverage, reads plays well, and isn't afraid to come downhill and deliver a strong open-field tackle.
Bonner-Prendie Key to Victory
Keep the ball out of O’Hara's hands.
The Friars need to establish sustained offensive drives, control possession, and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
With a defense capable of making life difficult for the Lions' offense, controlling the tempo and limiting O’Hara's possessions could play a major role in determining Friday night's outcome.
CARDINAL O’HARA LIONS (4–3)
The Lions enter Friday night's rivalry showdown looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Much like Bonner-Prendie, Cardinal O’Hara has faced an incredibly challenging schedule against elite competition. Despite the recent losses, the Lions have continued to battle and have shown plenty of talent on both sides of the football.
And with the Friars coming to town, the road doesn't get any easier.
Junior RB/SS Morris Donzo is a major reason why O’Hara remains such a dangerous opponent.
Donzo has been running wild this season for the Lions.
He's a physical, downhill runner with elite vision, excellent cutting ability, and outstanding breakaway speed. Donzo is incredibly difficult to bring down, runs through contact, and consistently fights for extra yards.
His combination of toughness, patience, and explosiveness makes him a threat to break a big run at any moment.
Watch out for Donzo on Friday night.
Senior DE Sammy Dantonka is an absolute PROBLEM for opposing offenses.
Dantonka has an explosive first step and reacts incredibly quickly off the snap. Before opposing quarterbacks have time to settle into the pocket, he can already be in the backfield creating havoc.
He's physical, aggressive, and hits hard. His ability to pressure quarterbacks, disrupt plays, and force turnovers makes him one of O’Hara's most dangerous defensive weapons.
Sammy is a STUD.
Junior FS/WR/P Robert Bower is another tremendous all-around playmaker for the Lions.
Defensively, Bower reads opposing quarterbacks exceptionally well, tackles effectively in the open field, and brings impressive physicality to the secondary.
He also contributes offensively and handles punting duties for O’Hara.
And man, can he punt.
His excellent ball placement and ability to influence field position make him a valuable weapon in the special teams game.
Bower can do it all.
Other Players to Watch — Cardinal O’Hara
Junior WR/FS Simon Horta
Horta is LITERALLY EVERYWHERE for the Lions.
He's outstanding defensively, excels in coverage, tackles extremely well in the open field, and has a tremendous ability to read plays as they develop.
Offensively, Horta runs crisp routes and consistently makes difficult contested catches. His versatility makes him a player to watch closely Friday night.
Junior DL Nolan Frazier
Frazier is an explosive, aggressive defensive lineman who plays with impressive speed and effort. He battles through double teams, closes quickly on ball carriers, and consistently finds ways to penetrate the backfield.
Senior OLB Max Brown
Brown brings serious physicality to the Lions' defense.
He's a fast, aggressive linebacker who reads plays well and is always around the football. His ability to deliver big hits and disrupt opposing offenses makes him a player Bonner-Prendie must account for.
Senior RB/MLB Isaac Day
Day is a physical two-way contributor who makes his presence felt on both sides of the ball.
Defensively, he excels at finding his way into the backfield and making tackles. Offensively, he's a powerful runner who fights through contact and is extremely difficult to bring down.
Junior WR/CB Emilio Martinez
Martinez has elite speed and is a dangerous weapon whenever the football is in his hands.
He possesses outstanding yards-after-catch ability, can create explosive plays offensively, and is also a dangerous return specialist.
Martinez has the ability to change the momentum of a game in an instant.
Junior DE Ameen Jackson
Jackson is another major problem along O’Hara's defensive front.
He plays with tremendous toughness and physicality, sets the edge extremely well, and consistently finds his way into the backfield.
His ability to disrupt plays and make tackles around the line of scrimmage could be crucial against the Friars.
Cardinal O’Hara Key to Victory
Make big plays early.
Getting the offense going early will be essential for the Lions against a talented Bonner-Prendie defense.
If O’Hara can put points on the board early, generate explosive plays, and build offensive momentum, the Lions will put themselves in a strong position to compete for the victory.
PA EAST FINAL OUTLOOK
Friday night has all the ingredients of an unforgettable rivalry showdown.
Two talented programs. Two identical 4–3 records. Two teams that have battled through incredibly difficult schedules. And a rivalry that brings an entirely different level of intensity to the football field.
Bonner-Prendie enters with momentum following a dominant shutout victory over Father Judge, while Cardinal O’Hara is hungry to end its three-game skid and make a statement against its rival.
One of the biggest battles to watch will be Bonner-Prendie's offensive line against Cardinal O’Hara's aggressive defensive front.
With players like Sammy Dantonka, Ameen Jackson, and Nolan Frazier capable of disrupting plays in the backfield, the Lions have the defensive talent to put pressure on the Friars. But with a massive presence like Tyrie Davis-Winn anchoring Bonner's offensive line, that matchup should be a physical battle from the opening whistle.
Another major storyline will be the battle between Bonner-Prendie's explosive offensive weapons and O’Hara's talented secondary.
With playmakers like Tymir Morris and Tarif Nixon capable of creating big plays, the Lions' defensive backs will need to be at their best. On the other side, O’Hara's offense has its own dangerous weapons, led by the physical running ability of Morris Donzo and the explosiveness of Emilio Martinez.
Both defenses are loaded with aggressive, physical playmakers who can change the game with one tackle, sack, or forced turnover.
And in a rivalry matchup like this, one explosive play, one defensive stop, or one momentum-changing turnover could make all the difference.
Forget the records. Forget the recent results.
When Bonner-Prendie and Cardinal O’Hara meet on Friday night, expect intensity, physicality, and two programs determined to leave everything on the field.
This is rivalry football. And PA East Sports Media will be there to capture it.
